First Olive Harvest of My Life

A first-in-a-lifetime (but probably not once) experience with hard work and a lot of fun. You believe it or not, even the olive harvest is based on the net now… Our ancestors did not have this comfort… Anyways, can you believe starting the olive harvest without proper gloves? Check out mine! Enjoy the photos.

The day in a nutshell: Me & the doggies (as peasant assistants) are checking upon the tools / We lay down the net / Then comes the man with the big stick / Beating the branches of the olive trees as hard as you can to make the olives fall down / Or you can take this job just like playing badminton / Cut and milk the branches to get stubborn olives off / You end up with a beautiful collection / Cleaning and folding the net, almost done! /  The result is 20+ sacs that will support the family with golden Cretan olive oil for a year / Carrying the sacs from the field to the car, I don’t miss a thing in this hard job / Finally, ready to go to the local olive press factory!
